have you tried using Spy bot search & destroy to search for the trojan? make sure every driver is properly updated and everything is up-to-date. hope this helps a little

Re: Okay, so where have i been OTHER then not being home much+?
im a little confused... you wiped the OS off it and put a new one on? or did you get a copy of the OS, use your key and install it on teh same PC and you "select" which windows you want to use at startup?
on teh video issue, you may lack ramm (its also possible that you make have screwed up a stick if you played around inside the guts of the PC), have a REALLY bad processor, you may of course have said driver issues, or your monitor my be way to out of date (check the pins in teh back, if one is broken or badly bent, you'll want to buy a new cord... keep the receipt). its also possible that your video card is fried, although that wouldnt really explain why a browser would have big issues.
if you havent already, wipe the operating system off your PC completely.... taht means if halo or something like that it still installed when you do a complete restore with your CD (not whatever is burned on to teh drive if thats the setup you have. losing all your old info sucks, but the virus may be an issue. i assume you didnt have video issues before you caught the trojan?
"search and destroy" isnt reliable, most viruses will infect your registry, and an antivirus may not completely fix it, even if it seems like it did.
please copy paste the trojan name if you still have it and can get it.

it seems as though the problem accured when you installed your own OS ontop of your friends custom cd (which you prolly shouldnt have done since it was a custom cd)

its not that the search and destroy doesnt work, its that it doesnt always completely remove the virus. since he reinstalled the OS the virus should be completely gone.

Re: Okay, so where have i been OTHER then not being home much+?
Too much to comment on with all that's been said, but I'll drop a few lines and be gone!.... First of all, you MOST CERTAINLY CAN still get/have a virus after a complete OS re-install! (Read about Rootkit viruses, especially Boot Loader ones!)Next to address the problem in the original post: It does, in deed sound like you do NOT have the correct device drivers for your device installed, and are using the software-only VGA emulation default drivers that come with Windoze. First of all you need to find out what brand/make/model/version your Graphics Adapter (GA) is. Open up the Hardware Manager (Start -> RIGHT-click "My Computer" choose "Properties", then the "Hardware" tab, then the "Device Manager" button.) Select the "+" sign in front of the line "Display adapters" and post a screenie of what it shows there. (We're looking for Red "X"s or Yellow "?" marks....) If one is listed there, RIGHT-click it and select "Properties," then click on the "Details" tab. Be sure that "Device instance id" shows in the drop-down, then copy the ENTIRE text string that's showing in the window beneath it, and post THAT here. E.g. Here's my device's id string: PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0622&SUBSYS_076519F1&REV_A1\4&1F4B26F9&0&00000018Once I/we have that information we can tell you how to proceed to FIND and install the correct drivers.
